Downer EDI announced on Friday it had been awarded a contract valued at approximately $200 million with ElectraNet Pty Ltd to construct the high voltage transmission line connection between the New South Wales and South Australian power grids as part of Project EnergyConnect.
Downer will commence work immediately, with major construction commencing in early 2022. Commissioning of the transmission line is to be underway in 2023.
Downer’s contribution to Project EnergyConnect will include the design, procurement and construction of:
• a 330kV transmission line between Bundey Substation and the South Australian and New South Wales border; and
• a 275kV transmission line between Bundey Substation and the existing Robertstown Substation.
The Chief Executive Officer of Downer, Grant Fenn, said Downer was a leader in Australia’s power transmission sector. “Downer is pleased to be involved in this critical infrastructure project which will improve power security and reliability to South Australia and the National Electricity Market as a whole.”
In July, Downer was awarded two contracts by NBN Co valued at an estimated $160 million over an initial two-and-a-half-year term. While in May, it secured a $900 million deal over eight years to operate and maintain bus services on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
